This practice-based, cross-sectional study examines how teachers in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary education use artificial intelligence in their professional practice and how they perceive its pedagogical benefits, challenges and risks.
Using the Use and Perception in Education and Research Questionnaire on Artificial Intelligence — EDU AI_26, the study explores:
• the AI tools teachers use, how frequently they use them and for which professional purposes;
• perceived benefits related to personalisation, efficiency, creativity, lesson planning, assessment and student support;
• concerns regarding technological dependence, the loss of basic skills, algorithmic bias, academic integrity, privacy, environmental impact and ethical responsibility; and
• possible differences in AI use, self-efficacy and critical AI literacy across educational levels.
By bringing teachers’ professional experiences and judgements to the centre of the discussion, the project aims to provide evidence that can support meaningful professional development and inform responsible, equitable and context-sensitive school policies on AI.
We look forward to sharing the study’s empirical findings and discussing how educational institutions can integrate AI in ways that enhance teaching and learning without undermining professional judgement, student agency or educational values.
